Schmerzteam – New perspectives in pain therapy
Holistic pain care center
As a neurologist, I have specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of chronic pain and headache. Many pain patients get treated with local injections and oral medication with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory substances. Unfortunately, this kind of medication is not convenient for chronic pain.
One of the major problems in pain medicine, is that chronic pain stays underdiagnosed and inadequately treated because patients still believe they have to live with pain and do not consult a specialist. Chronic pain patients should get specialty care with treatments like pain medication, physiotherapy, osteopathy, behavioral interventions as well as complementary therapies. Furthermore, self-management of pain should be promoted.
In order to propose adequate pain care, I have created a center, where I have brought together top specialists, who have extensive competence in some of the most groundbreaking therapies in pain care. Together, we offer an interdisciplinary pain treatment.
Conform to the principles of osteopathic medicine, we go beyond the obvious to get to the root of your problem. We do not only treat the symptom, but try to find the primary cause which triggered the pain. This could for example be a scar that leads to fascial traction, causing pain in a remote region of the body. Osteopathic specialists treat this scar with the hands, but there is also the possibility to inject a local anesthetic substance in the scar to relieve the tension. This method is called neural therapy and was developed in Germany in the 1920s. In Austria, the Society for Neural Therapy emphasizes that this method belongs to school medicine, as its effects can be explained with the current understanding in electrophysiology, physics and neurology.
The combination of neural therapy and osteopathy can lead to rapid recovery, helping to reduce oral medication and preventing the chronification of pain.
